George formed an interest in oversight involvement in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when he was participating in 1st Amendment rights organizations in Boston, Massachusetts and Atlanta, Georgia. In those years, he often leant his voice during City Hall meetings where social justice groups were present to advocate for the interests of LGBT, Latino and Veteran communities.
