
Yojaira Alvarez currently serves as the Senior Advisor at the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB), the nation's largest independent, all-civilian police oversight entity. As a key member of the executive team, she directs all external affairs, overseeing the Intergovernmental Affairs, Policy, Communications, and Outreach departments.
With nearly a decade of dedicated experience fostering transparency and accountability in law enforcement, Yojaira is responsible for building trust and strengthening relationships between the CCRB and the public, elected officials, and other city agencies. During her tenure, she significantly expanded the outreach team, which subsequently delivered the largest number of presentations in the agency's history. Under her guidance of outreach initiatives, she created the first-of-its-kind Youth Advisory Council to further engage the community. Her advocacy also secured $1 million in dedicated public education funding for the CCRB.
Her leadership extends to representing the CCRB at the local, state, and national levels. Her strategic work includes shaping legislative priorities, implementing robust policies, and driving major charter revisions and police reforms. A graduate of Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Ethnic Studies, Yojaira's expertise in partnerships and public policy is instrumental in enhancing the CCRB's reach and impact, ensuring the agency remains at the forefront of promoting effective civilian oversight.
