Training & Education

To further its mission, NACOLE works to bring together the growing community of civilian oversight practitioners, law enforcement officials, journalists, elected officials, students, community members, and others to meet and exchange information and ideas about issues facing civilian oversight and law enforcement.  In addition to it's annual conference, NACOLE conducts regional training and networking events, and gathers academics and scholars from different fields to discuss and encourage multi-disciplinary work on police oversight, and encourage relationships between civilian oversight practitioners, police professionals, and scholars.

Jail & Prison Oversight Quarterly Forum

    Topic: Reproductive Justice

Please join NACOLE on June 23, 2026, at 10 - 11 am PDT/1 - 2 pm EDT for our next quarterly online virtual forum for jail and prison oversight (JPO).

The forum will focus on common reproductive justice concerns impacting individuals incarcerated in prisons and jails – including inadequate access to reproductive health care, threats to health and safety during pregnancy and the postpartum period, interference with autonomous reproductive decision-making, and family separation – and potential strategies and solutions to address these concerns. We will hear a brief presentation from Emily Werth, Senior Supervising Attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, who has been involved in litigation and other advocacy efforts and co-authored a report related to this topic.

The presentation will be followed by Q&A and open discussion facilitated by Amarik Singh, Chair of the NACOLE Jail and Prison Oversight Committee, and Inspector General of the California Office of the Inspector General.

Forum attendees are encouraged to bring specific questions and resources related to the topic as this is an opportunity to exchange insight and suggestions with the JPO community. If you would like to submit a question or a resource in advance, please email [email protected], with attention to Amarik Singh.

    2026 NACOLE Webinar Series (June)

Reading the Death Record — Autopsy Reports, Toxicology, and Medical Records in LE-Related or Custodial Death

    Tuesday, June 30, 2026
    2:00 - 3:30 pm EDT - Webinar
3:30 - 4:00 pm EDT - Optional Post-webinar Discussion (Only those who attend the live webinar will be able to join the discussion.)

This webinar will address issues relevant to both police and custodial oversight.

In law enforcement-involved or custodial death cases, the official record is composed of several distinct documents — the medicolegal death investigation report, the autopsy report, toxicology results, and medical records. Each is produced by a different part of the system, in a different language, for different purposes. Together, they should tell a coherent story about how and why a person died.

This webinar cuts through the clinical language and institutional framing to give NACOLE members a practical, working knowledge of the four document types most central to custodial or LE-involved death cases (including officer-involved shootings). (Click here for a full description of the webinar.)

Speaker: Paul Parker, Paul Parker Consulting

    REGISTRATION FEE
    $25 for NACOLE members | $35 for non-members

    REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Monday, June 29, 12:00 pm EDT

    PLEASE NOTE
    The webinar will be recorded.
Registrants will receive an email with instructions for accessing the recording within five business days after the webinar.
