Puerto Rico Regional Training

The Importance of Independence, Transparency, and Accountability

Although many have been engaged in police reform efforts for some time, there is still much work to be done to establish long-term mechanisms that will guarantee enduring police reform.  In order to continue the work many in Puerto Rico to establish civilian oversight of law enforcement, NACOLE has partnered with William Ramirez, Executive Director of the ACLU of Puerto Rico to put together a one-day training on the importance of oversight and the steps that must be taken to to establish and effective mechanism that works to promote transparency and accountability.  In addition, topics such as effective engagement of community and government actor and the importance of easy access to public documents will also be addressed to help them in their efforts to expose police misconduct and move towards a more accountable, legitimate, and transparent system.
