Investigating Police Surveillance Techniques
On May 14, 2024 NACOLE welcomed Dave Maas, a previous recipient of NACOLE's Contribution to Oversight Award, to discuss the most common surveillance technologies acquired by police, emerging developments, and practical techniques for investigating abuses of this technology.
Dave Maas
Dave Maass serves as director of investigations at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, researching the use (and abuse) of police surveillance technology in communities and at the U.S.-Mexico border. He is also a scholar in residence at the University of Nevada, Reno, Reynolds School of Journalism, where he leads the AtlasofSurveillance.org project. Prior to joining EFF he was a reporter for alternative newspapers across the Southwest, covering everything from San Diego Comic-Con to Texas death row. In 2014, he was a recipient of NACOLE's 2014 Contribution to Oversight Award.
