This webinar will address issues relevant to police oversight.
What can cities do to promote meaningful police oversight when federal involvement is limited or unavailable? This session explores the policies, structures, and political realities that enable communities to build strong, independent, and sustainable oversight systems. Panelists will examine civilian oversight, approaches to data management, and methods for self-evaluation that aid oversight bodies measure their effectiveness. Discussion will include investigative best practices, strategies for collaborating constructively with law enforcement rather than serving as advisors, and practical ways to navigate union contracts and local political dynamics. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of how cities can strengthen oversight, improve accountability, and increase public trust—without relying on federal intervention.
